The designer of Visual Studio.NET (I'm working with 2005) has difficulty working on graphics when a control is derived from an abstract class (which in turn derives from UserControl).
In these cases give up to have the abstract class and transform all the properties and methods into something abstract by default (the methods that allow voids are created).
